Exquisite things
Have you ever walked in a beautiful wild place, and imagined what it would be like to explore it at night? What new magic would there be to find?
How would you feel if your torchbeam came to rest on unique flowers of various shapes, sizes and colours? Would they look like lanterns or fairy lights, illuminated against the night sky?
This artwork is my imagining coming to life...
“Don’t be afraid. There are exquisite things in store for you. This is merely the beginning.” Oscar Wilde
It is about embracing contrast, and exploring concepts of diversity, similarity and life cycle, paying particular homage to various Southern Queensland varieties of native banksia - robur, oblongifolia, aemula and integrifolia - and their flowers in the various forms of development, blooming and decay. Also featured are the beautiful hovea, broad-leaved hakea, green five-corners, Queensland waxflower, bushy whitebeard and the devil’s rice flower, making this a true celebration of wallum wildflowers.
This artwork combines various techniques, including carving and piping, creating a piece with texture, depth and energy. It is one for the starry-eyed wildflower lovers, who want to bring a little of nature’s artistry and magic into their home and life.
60cm round, acrylics and carving on board, ready to hang
